2023 FALL SEASON

Head of the Buffalo Regatta

October 14, 2023 – All Boats

BSRA 405 Ohio St. Buffalo, NY 14204
2023 BSRA (10/14/23) and Head of the Niagara, West Side Rowing Club (10/15/23)

Hello CHS Rowing families…here we go the Fall 3 week sprint!

Buckle up for a busy weekend along the Lake Erie coast as we will be participating Saturday (10/14) in a practice regatta at our home BSRA and then competing on Sunday (10/15) the Head of the Niagara at West Side Rowing Club.  All boys will be participating on both days.

What do you need to do:

  • First- Please register (basically pay for) your son by using the attached link for our Rowing Team Portal Site. There is only one registration fee $2o total for both Saturday and Sunday’s events.
  • Second- Please complete the Sign Up Genius (thank you Jen Zakrewski for making them!!)  Please RSVP with the number of people you will have coming from your family, including your rower. We use this information to help us gauge how much food to buy.
  • Additionally, with the Sign Up Genius please consider volunteering for anyone of the areas where we need some physical help for each event or to bring some of the side food/drinks.  We will be making the regatta’s famous breakfast sandwiches both days and chicken fajitas (for everyone including families) for lunch on Sunday.  This is  a great way to meet new members of the Canisius Crew Family and see how the whole operation works!
  • Coaches will tell boys when to be where for each day.  Saturday looks to be a little more predictable with a planned time of 8 to 12.
  • For Sunday’s regatta the first race is at about 8:30 in the morning and the boys will be told by the coach when to be there (coxswains have to be at an early meeting). For first timers the boys will have to de-rig and load boats up after any finals races so an end time of around 3 or 4 is normal.  All boys should stay until all the boats are put away.
  • If you would like to help but are not sure what something is or if you are looking for a little better picture of what to expect at the regattas or if you have any issues with any part of the registration process please do not hesitate to reach out to Mark Skowron 716-479-4598 or markskowron@roadrunner.com.
  • When packing for this weekend, binoculars, chairs and it looks like cold and wet gear and boots may be really helpful to get ready.  Parking at West Side is pretty far from the regatta site so please be prepared for that…
  • Lastly, here again is the link for Canisius Rowing gear through AdPro https://canisiushsrowing22023.itemorder.com/shop/home/ – it says all things to be delievered by me – I did that so each person wouldnt have to pay shipping and we can just distribute all your items when they are made.
  • Ok, Register, complete Sign Up Genius By Friday, Oct. 13AM please!, pray for the rain to stop, and have boys pay attention to where they have to be when…got it!

Thanks for your patience and Go Canisius!

Mark

Some basic info…

2022 Head of Cuyahoga, Cleveland 9/17/22

Dear CHS JV and Varsity Rowing Familes,

The JV/Varsity Team ONLY will be traveling to Cleveland this Saturday.   The team will be traveling by Niagara Scenic coach buses.  The team will be driven by a professional driver there and back in one day.  We felt that that the safety of the team was paramount and thus chose to contract a bus with a professional driver.  We were very cognizant of the increased cost to us as families but believe that our primary concern should be the safety of our Canisius Family.  As always, we will never allow finances to prevent a boy from participating.  If you have any questions or challenges please reach out to Mark Skowron 716-479-4598 or Coach Rubino.

Logistics and action items are below:

  1. Be in the CHS parking lot by 5:45 a.m., ready to leave
  2. Each athlete should pack a “healthy” breakfast and lunch
  3. Plan to bring cash for stops along the way (possibly for breakfast) and dinner – Or pack extra food
  4. There will be a cooler to keep drinks cold and we will have yogurt, bananas, chocolate milk and granola bars for the boys
  5. We will also be bringing a tent on the bus – if the boys would like to bring a yoga mat or packable chair there should be room on the bus
  6. This will be an all day event – we will not be returning until the evening

The cost per athlete is $109.00 – this covers the cost of the hotel room Friday night for the driver of the boats from BSRA and the Niagara Scenic bus.

Thank you in advance for helping make this event a success.
