Crusaders sweep main varsity events

On the 1300-meter course, beginning underneath the Skyway Bridge and ending in front of the Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Club on Ohio Street, crews from across the Great Lakes Region including Detroit, Cleveland, Erie, Pa., Niagara Falls, Ontario raced in their spring season opener.
Canisius varsity rowers swept all main events winning the Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+, Junior Varsity 8+, Junior Variety 4+.
Canisius’s second entries in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity 4+ events placed 3rd.
The Freshman/Novice team placed 2nd in the 8+ and 4+ events.
In what was considered the most exciting race of the day, the Canisius Freshman/Novice 8+ traded leads with Detroit Boat Club’s crew all the way from the start to the finish line, ending only 1 second apart.
On Sunday, Canisius competes in Buffalo’s John Bennett Regatta at West Side Rowing Club.
