Canisius Rowing’s JV eight put forth an excellent performance in a national championship race today, making it great back-to-back weekends for the crew.
On Saturday, May 27th the Crusaders took home a silver medal in the JV eight in a hard-fought battle with fellow Jesuit power St Ignatius of Cleveland at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s national championship race in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

It was Canisius’ first SRAA medal in this event since 2008, and just the school’s second ever.

The Canisius lightweight four was fifth in the SRAA grand final.

Last weekend, the JV eight was second at the 96th Stotesbury Cup in Philadelphia in a thrilling finish with two other Jesuit school rowing powers. Canisius earned second in the final push to the line and finished behind only host St. Joe’s Prep, the top-ranked high school in the nation. Canisius beat out Gonzaga of Washington, D.C. for second place in a great come-from-behind finish, edging Gonzaga by .05 seconds.

The Canisius lightweight four was sixth in the final in a Stotesbury field of 20 crews.
