A History of Excellence

Crusaders Rowing

The CHS rowing team is recognized throughout the United States as a competitive powerhouse, and certainly represents one of the strongest athletic traditions at Canisius High School. Since 1956, Canisius rowers have earned countless US National, Canadian National, and New York State Championships. The program has produced two Olympians within the past 30 years.

Canisius High School Rowing is based out of the CHS Indoor Training Center located on Canisius High School’s main campus at 1180 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo NY.

Made up of varsity and freshman programs, the team competes and trains year-round. One of the keys to success is our intense indoor strength and conditioning program from November to April. The unique indoor facility boasts 50 ergometers, video-networked “virtual rowing shells”, sliders, and an array of custom-built strength training equipment.

The team is funded through Canisius High School, rower dues, as well as fundraising activities. Additionally, rowers are assessed fees for each regatta that will cover the transportation, lodging and meals. If there is any hardship, the parent should notify program Technical Director, Jim Neil (jimneil@hotmail.com).

Canisius students that want to row, will have the opportunity, regardless of their ability to pay.
