High school notes / 96th STOTESBURY CUP
The Canisius rowing team took home the silver medal Saturday in the Junior 8+ at the 96th Stotesbury Cup, a prestigious regatta held on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
The only boat to finish ahead of the Crusaders was St. Joseph’s Prep, the No. 1 ranked high school team in the nation.
St. Joe’s finished in 4 minutes, 28.9 seconds for the victory. Canisius’ time was 4:32.83 as the Crusaders came from behind to edge Gonzaga of Washington D.C., by .05 seconds.
The rowers for Canisius: Max Burget (stroke), James Dodman, Liam Feeney, Isaiah Aljuwani, Mark Kadiev, John Hart Jr., Thomas Skowron, Peter Cross (bow), Theadore Hibbard (coxin).
Also in Philadelphia, the Canisius Lightweight 4+ finished sixth in its final, in an event of 20 crews.
The performance follows a strong showing at the state championship meet last weekend in Saratoga Springs. Canisius won six state championship – three overall in theU19 2-, U17 4+ and Novice 4+— and three scholastic — Junior Varsity 8+, Novice 8+, and U16 4X+. In all, Canisius won 35 gold medals sand four silvers.
